Improve Operations and Conserve Energy at MIT

MIT rooftop

MIT has a 200,000 sq. ft. office building served by eight large rooftop units. Bluestone reviewed the operation and identified an energy savings project consisting of the installation of a variable frequency drive (VFD) on the supply and return fan of each rooftop unit. The VFD operation would replace inlet vane control, save over 1,000,000 kWh per year, and reduce fan wear and tear through ramped startup.

Bluestone engineered and installed the VFD conversion on a turnkey basis, which included creating VFD mechanical rooms in two elevator penthouses and revising penthouse HVAC systems.
